What are safe urban driving courses and from where you can get them?
Driving in urban areas is riskier
than driving on a motorway because there are other road users too. There are
cyclists and pedestrians. The drivers that drive Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs),
Public Service Vehicles (PSVs), van or cars, they must be aware of all the road
dangers. There may come a situation, where you are driving in an urban area and
a pedestrian suddenly walk out on the road. In such a situation, the driver
should know how to handle it. For this reason, a safe urban driving course was
introduced. Safe Urban Driving courses are made for the vulnerable road users
such as pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists but the particular focus of these
courses is cyclists. The aim of this course is how the fleet drivers share city
streets safely with the vulnerable road users. This course particularly
emphasis on the cyclists. During this course, the learners are also given a
practical on-road cycle training to give the drivers a real-life experience. Through
this practical session, they get to experience the cyclist’s perspective. Well,
it is important to complete this course because it is a compulsory module for
CPC training.
